Bad VA’ing can really ruin the experience of a long, story-driven/character-driven game like, say, Tales games and I think games like FFX show that it’s important to get VAs/Voice Directors that give a shit
That being said TOS was pretty good (I don’t remember older games’ VAing, though I remember TOE being pretty atrocious) and they’ve only gotten better, same with other games that have to be localized, but it’s ridiculous to prefer the Japanese voices just because they’re Japanese that’s moving into a little cottage in weeb territory right there
Just like gosh if I hear another “but there’s enough space on the disc to include the Japanese voices!!” I’m gonna wreck it and it is gonna be someone’s dinner

I usually prefer the Japanese voices. Arc Rise Fantasia (as a few other dubbed games) had HORRIBLE dubbing and COMPLETELY ruined the ENTIRE game for me. I don’t remember the game for its story (which was good) but rather how BAD the voicing was.
Now some games had great dubs. Tales of Vesperia had good Dubs, Fragile Dreams’ dubs were good, and Infinite Undiscovery’s dubs were good too!
Appreciate both the dubbed and original. Though I usually like the original more, the dubs can be good. (Unless it’s Arc Rise Fantasia. The voices are REALLY bad. They destroy the tear making ending!)
